14 year old Charlotte Robinson contracted Meningococcal Disease,
Septicemia and Meningitis on the 29th of May 2006 following a trip
to Alton towers.
-
Charlotte
spent
the first two weeks in intensive care on a life support machine,
with total Liver, Lung and Kidney failure.
-
Following
a second attack of toxic shock Charlotte has had her legs
amputated from the knee down to prevent further infection.
-
Charlotte appeared to improve slowly in the following four weeks but
suffered another set back on the
19th
July when she suffered another attack of Septicemia. Meaning that
she went back onto life support and suffered more damage to her
vital organs.

-
Emergency surgery of a colostomy was carried out on Friday the 28th
of July.
-
Charlotte came back off the life support on the 31st Aug
06 and is currently placed in a bath like bed of
silicone
that supports her back and bottom injuries, we estimate it will be
the end of August 2006 before she is back into a normal bed.

-
The hospital are not prepared to estimate timescales for Charlottes
return to home but we are expecting it to be 10 to 12 weeks-then the
real hard work will start.
